When you’re working with solvents that love to explode or catch light, one tiny spark or a bit of ozone can turn a normal workday into a nightmare. That’s why we built our ozone-free lamps. We focused on the two things that actually keep you safe: how we wrap the lamp and how we control the light.
The Problem with Ozone
Most short-wave lamps throw off UV radiation. That UV hits the oxygen in the air and creates ozone. Now, in a clean room, ozone is just a nuisance. But in a chemical shop? It’s a powerful oxidizer that can make volatile solvents act very unpredictably. We fixed this by using a special quartz envelope with a UV-blocking coating. It basically filters the light so no ozone ever gets created in the first place. Simple.
Keeping the Bad Stuff Out
We don’t just send you a glass tube and wish you luck. For those really dangerous zones, we seal everything in a reinforced, explosion-proof housing. It’s a physical barrier. It keeps those flammable vapors away from the hot quartz and the electrical terminals. We use heavy-duty seals to make sure the inside stays isolated from the chaos outside. **A quick heads-up though:**check your wiring. Make sure it’s rated for the specific fumes you’re using. Also, keep an eye on those seals. If they start to degrade because of the solvents, your safety rating goes right out the window.
Built to Last (and Actually Work)
Industrial wash cycles are brutal. Things get hot, they cool down, and they do it over and over. To stop the lamps from burning out during those rapid power cycles, we ruggedized the connectors and tightened up the thermal expansion of the filament. It’s built to take a beating. One thing to keep in mind: because the housing is so heavy-duty, it blocks a tiny bit of the IR heat compared to a bare bulb. You might find you need to bump up the wattage or let the parts sit under the heat for a few seconds longer to get the same result. It’s a small trade-off for the peace of mind.
