
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
If you’re running a Class 100 cleanroom, you already know the nightmare: one tiny speck of dust or a stray flake of material, and your semiconductor wafers are toast. It’s frustrating. Most heating elements are a liability because they outgas or shed particles right when you need them to be stable. We figured out a better way. We use high-purity quartz infrared lamps and pair them with Teflon-insulated wiring. Simple, but it works. The deal with High-Purity Quartz We went with synthetic fused silica for the lamp envelopes. Why? Because it doesn’t freak out at high temperatures. Standard glass tends to release microscopic particles as it heats up and cools down. But this quartz stays put. It lets the infrared radiation pass right through to the substrate without getting overly hot itself. No flaking. No shedding. Just clean, direct heat. Don’t forget the wiring Here’s the thing: the lamp is only half the story. Most people overlook the wiring, but that’s usually where the cleanroom fails. If you use standard PVC wiring in a semiconductor tool, the heat eventually breaks the insulation down. It starts “off-gassing” volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into your vacuum or your air. It’s basically a contamination machine. That’s why we use PTFE (Teflon) coated wiring. It’s chemically inert. It doesn’t degrade, and it doesn’t leak fumes, even when things get hot. The reality of the engineering Now, these high-intensity lamps are great because they ramp up the heat fast—which is exactly what wafer processing needs. But that power comes with a catch. You have to be smart about the setup. Your mounting brackets need to be non-shedding, and your cooling airflow has to be spot on. If the air isn’t moving enough, even Teflon has a breaking point. You don’t want your insulation failing six months down the road because of a cooling glitch. We designed these units to be easy drop-in replacements for your existing tools.
