
Why we’re ditching old lamp heaters for IPX5 Infrared
Let’s be honest: most bathroom heaters are pretty basic. They usually rely on those old-school incandescent bulbs that just aren’t built for a room full of steam and splashes. It’s why so many of them quit on you way sooner than they should. That’s why we’ve moved toward IPX5 rated infrared systems. They’re built to handle direct water jets without blowing a fuse or shorting out. The deal with IPX5 and moisture If you see “IPX5,” it basically means the unit can take a spray of water from any angle and keep on ticking. In a real bathroom, you’ve got steam everywhere and the occasional direct splash. Old heaters usually have these annoying gaps around the lamp housing. We fixed that. We use reinforced polymer casings and high-temp silicone gaskets to seal everything tight. This keeps the water far away from the electrical terminals. Without that seal, water creeps in, everything corrodes, and your heater burns out. Simple as that. Why infrared actually works Most heaters try to warm up the air. The problem? That takes forever. Infrared is different. It sends out short-wave radiation that hits your skin and the walls directly. You feel the warmth the second you flip the switch. We use quartz tubes with a special coating so you get all that heat without being blinded by a harsh glare. A few things to keep in mind Now, there are a couple of catches. First, you can’t just plug these into a random extension cord or a daisy-chained outlet. These units pull a lot of power to get that instant heat, so you’ll need a dedicated circuit and a proper breaker. Don’t skip this part. Also, these things gethot. Fast. If you mount the heater too low, it can actually be a burn hazard. You’ve got to check the wattage and make sure it’s mounted high enough to be safe. At the end of the day, we built these to take a beating from humidity and spray. They fit right into the spot where your old lamp heater used to be, but you can actually stop worrying about electrical failures in the shower.
