Why gold?

The catch (and how to handle it)
Now, there are a few trade-offs. Using gold lets us keep the heater small while keeping the heat density high. But these surfaces are delicate. If your clean room protocols slip and dust or chemicals settle on that gold layer, your reflectivity tanks. **Whatever you do, don’t scrub them with abrasive chemicals.**You’ll strip the coating right off. Also, alignment is everything. If your lamp is off by even a couple of millimeters, you lose that focusing effect. Make sure your mounting brackets are rock solid. No wiggle room.
