
Getting Your Heat Right in the Woodshop
When you’re picking out heating elements for edge-banding or veneer pressing, you’re basically playing a balancing act. You need the heat to hit fast and hard, but not so hard that you torch your workpiece. That’s where our infrared lamps come in. We built them to do exactly what the expensive OEM parts from the big-name brands do, just without the inflated price tag. The nitty-gritty on heat We use short-wave infrared. Why? Because it cuts through the surface and gets deep into the wood quickly. The real trick is in the wattage-to-length ratio. If you’ve got a small space but need a lot of punch for fast line speeds, you need high heat density. Just a heads-up: make sure your wiring and power supply can actually handle the amp draw. If you push too much through a weak wire, you’re just asking for a burnout. No fancy rewiring needed We use high-purity quartz glass and fill the tubes with halogen gas. It keeps the filament alive longer and stops the glass from turning that murky dark color over time. Most of our lamps use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. This is the best part: they’re basically “plug and play.” You don’t have to spend your afternoon rewiring the machine. Just pop them in, tweak your temperature controller, and you’re back in business. Living with them on the shop floor Let’s be real—woodshops are dusty, vibrating messes. These lamps are built for that. They can take the grit and the shake of a factory floor way better than some generic heater you’d find online. But there is one catch. Because these things put out so much heat, your reflectors have to stay spotless. If a layer of sawdust settles on the reflector, your efficiency tanks instantly. It’s a pain, but keep a strict cleaning schedule. You want that heat hitting the wood, not baking your machine frame. You get the same curing and drying results as the premium brands, but you’re buying direct. Simple as that.
