Getting the Heat Right
When we set up SCM machines, it all comes down to power density and voltage. We use high-wattage quartz tubes because they hit the target temperature in seconds. It’s fast. Really fast. And that changes everything for your workflow. Because the ramp-up is so quick, you can crank up your conveyor belt speed without worrying about leaving the wood damp. More pieces out the door every hour. Simple as that. We stick with halogen-filled quartz glass for a reason. The halogen cycle keeps the tungsten filament from evaporating too quickly. In plain English? The glass doesn’t turn black and cloudy, so your heat stays consistent for thousands of hours.
The Practical Stuff: Installation
You probably don’t want to rip out your entire control cabinet just to get better lamps. We get that. That’s why we use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re designed as drop-in replacements. As long as the voltage and length match your current housing, you’re good to go. But here is the catch: short-wave emitters are incredibly intense. It’s a bit of a balancing act. If your feed speed is too slow or the lamp is sitting too close to the piece, you’ll scorch the wood. You’ve got to spend a little time calibrating the height and speed to make sure the finish is perfect.
